About James Shannon
James has worked on many top projects for film, TV and CD releases and is an experienced engineer, editor and technician. Credit highlights include CTS technical manager for The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King. He frequently records with the BBC and has worked at most top studios such as Abbey Road, Air, Whitfield Street (formerly Sony) and CTS as well as at many location venues. He is a graduate of, and now associate lecturer in recording at, the world-famous "Tonmeister Music and Sound Recording" degree at the University of Surrey, where he was awarded the "AMS Neve prize for creative recording" for his University portfolio. During his Tonmeister work placement year he started his freelance recording career and also worked at Cadac Electronics, where he helped design and test high-end mixing consoles. This allowed him to gain valuable experience at component-level operation, fault-finding, creation and repair of audio equipment; he has built, modified, or upgraded much of the Graphic Sound equipment.
After graduating James worked for CTS-Lansdowne before becoming a full-time freelance recording engineer. Here he worked on many major film and TV releases, refurbished the existing studio and built a new one. He continues to work for CTS-Lansdowne in a freelance role.
James has sung in live choral broadcasts for Radio 3. He plays piano and electric bass, has been part of a signed band and performed on television.
